As I was going through these pictures again from our time in the Dominican Republic this last November, it reminded me the joy the presence of Jesus has on people. Natives of the Dominican rarely make their way outside when it is raining due to the belief that they’ll get sick, yet on this day we spent an hour in the pouring rain playing soccer together.

There was no care about the rain as everyone ran through the mud, laughing, and scheming plans to win this game. This was not just any rain either, it was rain that came by the gallons, as you can tell by the pictures of us. Later that day, we held a church service right next to the field we played that memorable soccer game on.
This was not just any rain either, it was rain that came by the gallons.
Over 100 people came that night, even though the rain was still persistent! The last picture is after the sermon I preached about how God was able to use David, a forgotten son and a sheep herder, to become the king of Israel and to be “one after Gods own heart”. That night, the church saw 10 people come to accept Christ, some even coming from the soccer game we had prior to that service! The picture of us huddled praying is of the young men who accepted Christ, while the ladies we were with took the young women who accepted Christ and prayed with them.
That night, the church saw 10 people come to accept Christ.
After church, the pastor we worked with told us that there was a women who has been coming to that church for years since she lived next door, but she was never willing to accept Christ. After the service she said she felt the Holy Spirit there, and that she could no longer deny the grace given through Christ.
Over 100 people came that night, even though the rain was still persistent!
That day, God was able to bring together hundreds of people to live and enjoy life; through the rainstorm, through the language barriers, and through the personal obstacles. This was a glimpse of Heaven, when people come from all nations and all walks of life and gather to worship the Creator! Forever grateful.
